A Parade Steeped in Tradition
Since its humble beginnings in 1968, the Westhampton Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade has grown into one of the most beloved annual events on Long Island. It all started with a group of locals known as the Cooks and Bakers, who, after a lively night at their favorite watering hole, decided that Westhampton Beach needed its own parade. What began as a small, spontaneous march has since blossomed into a full-scale spectacle featuring pipe bands, creative floats, and quirky local traditions.
Over the years, the parade has been home to some truly memorable moments. From marching ducks down Main Street to a protest against harsh winters involving a Volkswagen Bug covered in snow, creativity and good-natured humor have always been at the heart of the celebration. One of the most famous fixtures of the parade is the Coneheads, a mysterious group that cleverly weaves politics and current events into their float each year—always keeping their theme a well-guarded secret!
This year’s Grand Marshal, Steve Frano, will be the 57th to lead the parade since its inception, guiding the procession through the streets of Westhampton Beach. With lively music, vibrant costumes, and an unbeatable community atmosphere, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
